Fortis Opencart Theme

Documentation

Thank you for purchasing Fortis Opencart Theme!

Preparations

Before you install Fortis, make sure you have a compatible version of OpenCart installed.
We recommend installation on a clean, unmodified version of OpenCart.

Compatible versions: 1.5.4.1, 1.5.5.1

More information about how to install Opencart can be found at Opencart documentation website:
http://docs.opencart.com/display/opencart/Installation

This theme does not overwrite any core files. We still recommend you to make a backup of your files and database before the installation.

Installation

1.  Install vQmod

Fortis uses VQMod for a few additional features like the 3-level navigation. Therefore you need to have VQMod ready before installing the theme.

If you already have VQmod installed on your store, you can simply skip this step and move forward to step 2.

VQMod is available for free here: http://code.google.com/p/vqmod/

Download and follow the installation instructions from the vQmod website. When the installation is finished, you should get the following message in your browser:

VQMOD HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON YOUR SYSTEM!

2.  Upload theme files

The unzipped theme folder contains three sub-folders as follows:

Open up the folder named Filed to upload using your favorite ftp program. Then open the sub-folder matching your current Opencart installation. You will then see the following folders:

To determine which version you are currently running, visit www.yourstore.com/admin and see the version number at the bottom of the page.

By opening the folder matching your Opencart version, you should find these following folders:

The theme folders have the same structure as the Opencart store. Be sure you have the same folders also at your server where you upload the theme. Now it’s time to upload the files, you might be asked to confirm if you want to merge the folders. Do so. No files will be overwritten.

Make sure all files are being uploaded successfully and there are no files left in the failures list.

3.  Log in to your store admin panel

Now, when the theme is uploaded to your Opencart installation, its time to activate and configure the theme. This is done from the store admin panel. Simply visit www.yourstore.com/admin and log in.

4.  Install Custom modules

Fortis comes with three custom modules.

We have created two custom modules for banners and slideshows. They are both responsive, and the slideshow has been developed to contain more settings for transition effects, speed etc.

Go to your admin panel and visit Extensions > Modules to find your new modules.

Install the modules by clicking the Install link beside each of them.

We recommend you to open the module called Fortis Theme Panel by clicking the link Edit. When you have opened this module, simply press the Save button before moving on. This will configure the settings at a minimum level.

We also recommend you to uninstall the default modules “Banner” and “Slideshow” since our custom modules are much better wink

5.  Activate theme

Now it’s time to switch from the default theme and instead use Fortis. To do so, please visit:

System › Settings › Edit Store settings › Store tab › Template dropdown

Congratulations! You have now installed Fortis theme and are ready to configure images sizes, slideshows, layouts and much more.

Configuration

1.  Set image sizes

To make your store products look pretty we recommend you to set image sizes according to how the theme is built.

The image sizes are set both from the store settings and under some modules. We highly recommend you to use the values market as green in the images below.

System › Settings › Edit Store settings › Store tab › Template dropdown

The product page will automatically adjust to fit the product image thumb size.

Extensions › Modules › Product listing modules (Bestseller, Latest, Featured & Special)

Extensions › Modules › Carousel

*Since the carousel module is responsive. The limit of visible items will automatically be calculated according to the screen width. Therefore, the number you type in here will not affect the store.

2.  Configure modules

Now it’s time to configure the modules you want to use in your store. It is of course up to you which modules you wish to use. Fortis is built to be compatible with the default module layout system, even though we have some recommendations. Here are some guidelines regarding usage of modules:

How to set up the home page slideshow

The custom slideshow works on the same way as the default version, except we added some more features. Once you have added the banner group via System > Design > Banners you are ready to add the module to your store.

Go to Extensions > Modules > Slideshow responsive

Configure the settings you wish, and select the banner group to be used in the slideshow. We recommend you to set the image width to 960 pixels.

How to set up the banners on home page

The custom banner module can be used in any place in the store. It is connected to the default banner group system. If you wish to set up the banner style as we use in our demo store, create a banner group containing two images (470px * 60px), and use the settings below:

For full information of how we are using the modules in our demo store, please visit our demo admin panel at http://opencart.infortis-themes.com/fortis/admin/

Using the Fortis Theme Panel

The built in Fortis Theme Panel is used to control extra features such as the custom block, header link, design options and much more. You reach the theme panel via Extensions > Modules > Fortis Theme Panel.

We hope most of the settings are easy to understand, but we think some of the features need a little explanation.

Custom promo message

The custom promo message is used to display a message at the store fronts header. Its multi-lingual and you should see one field for each language activated in your store. Type in any text you wish, you can also include links in the promo message. Example of link usage:

Free shipping this weekend! <a href="http://www.yourstore.com/terms">Read more</a>

Custom user menu link

The user menu is the menu placed in header containing the Account, Wish list, Login and Sign Up links. You can add an additional link if you like. Even this feature is multi-lingual, and one field for Custom menu link text is created for each language in your store. Type in the text you wish to show, and also the URL for the target link.

Custom block

The custom block is used at the product pages below the brand logo. You are free to place any content you like using the WYSIWYG-editor. Even this is multi-lingual so don’t forget to fill in content for each language. If you would like to add the same promo list as we use in the demo store, simply add a bullet list as shown below:

Carousel converter

Each one of the default modules for listing products can be converted to a carousel. Just enable them as carousels in the theme panel. This will automatically convert them into a carousel.

Please note that modules placed in the columns not will be converted.

Footer social links

Connect your activities at social networks to your store. Enable those social links you want by enable them. Enabled links will show of in the store fronts footer area.

Use http:// when you type in links. Example: http://www.facebook.com instead of just www.facebook.com

The design settings

Under the design options tab you can enable your custom design scheme. By using the Reset-link you will start from the design which is used in our demo store. From there you are free to experiment with colors and styles. Type in your own HEX-codes for colors, or use the color picker tool.

Custom CSS tab

Under this section you can apply any CSS rules you like. Please note that you dont need to add the < style> tags. The rules you write will normally overwrite the rules collected from the style sheets. If you dont see any effect, try to use the !important rule for your css.

Example of a CSS rule:

#menu > ul > li > div > ul > li > a {background:#f5f5f5;}

Example of a CSS rule with the !important rule:

#menu > ul > li > div > ul > li > a {background:#f5f5f5 !important;}

Use Fortis in a non-English store

Fortis uses some additional language files which need to be included in all languages. Copy the following files over to your own language packs:

admin/language/english/module/bannerot.php
admin/language/english/module/slideshowot.php
admin/language/english/module/fortispanel.php
catalog/language/english/common/fortis.php
